Concrete: It All Began With a Home Project
The year was 2005.
Before creating Floor-de-Rouge, Glen Baber had a successful
career as a computer drafter. He had spent the previous 12
years drafting plans that would be used to build industrial
plants. But it was the building of his new home that
helped him discover what he enjoyed doing most.
That year, Glen and his
wife began construction of their new house. The couple
decided that stained floors would add personality to
their home. The problem was that very few local contractors
even offered acid-staining. Besides, Glen already had a
bit of construction experience, so he decided to try his own
hand at it.
The Babers invested
their money into a week-long training session offered by
Kemiko. In business since 1930, Kemiko has been
creating stains and sealers used by countless builders
across the world. So after learning from the very
best, Glen headed back to Louisiana, where he completed his
first flooring project. And that's when he had a revelation.
work was actually enjoyable to him. The looks that could be
achieved were limited only by creativity and imagination.
Not to mention a job that required a good bit of moving
around seemed more interesting than computer work. So
it wasn't long before the husband-wife team decided to
launch their own decorative concrete business.
Fast forward to 2012.
Floor-de-Rouge, also known as Geaux Concrete, has handled
hundreds of flooring projects since the company was created.
What began as a do-it-yourself idea has grown into a
well-known and respected business. The Baber Family
still treats every new project with the same care and
attention that they would give to their own home.
Floor-de-Rouge will continue to improve homes and make home
owners happy for years to come.
